Spiderpig - The Simpsons Movie - Even more famous than the film?

Spiderpig (genus spiderous piggus). Extremely rare and found in Springfield . Only known living example owned by a Homer J. Simpson. The fruit of a genetic experiment gone horribly wrong, it is mildly venomous. It spins webs like a spider and typically can be found in the living room.

Is Spiderpig the greatest piece of viral? Having seen more people talk about it, laugh about it and play the clip on local and national radio, it would be no surprise to hear whether spider pig gets his own show or perhaps a greater feature in future Simpson's shows.

One thing is certain, and that is that the song "Spider Pig, Spider Pig, does whatever a Spider Pig Does...." is going to be heard a lot this summer...

New Club In Brighton - Digital replaces The Zap Club

Ok, perhaps off the topic of CD's and DVDs, but nevertheless a story worth a blog entry.

Long running Brighton nightclub, which was renamed Union last year, only to be renamed back to the Zap has been sold, and in a move which will undoubtedly shake up Brighton club land and rival nights at Audio, we can only be thankful that pervious owner C-Side are not in charge!

If Digital Brighton, is going to be anything like Digital Newcaslte then we are in for a treat, with their trademark Funktion One Sound systems and consistent booking of good quality nights.

A concern of course being financial sustainability? will Digital have to welcome the midweek mass market just to stay afloat?

Compare: Calvin Harris - I Created Disco

It appears that you can't go anywhere withour hearing the infectious "Acceptable in the 80's" from scottish electronic artist Calvin Harris, and despite being somewhat cheesy and pop friendly he has maintained a solid reputation as a producer and artist.

Whilst concern has been aired that his debut single would be one hit wonder, his album "I Created Disco" and earlier release "The Girls", certainly put an end to speculation.

I Created Disco - titled to provoke a reaction of "no he didn't", is the debut album from Harris and it's clear influences range from the likes of Prince, Daft Punk and LCD soundsystem.

It was released in the UK on the 18th June 2007 and features the following tracks:

I want to compare prices but I can't !

At 6.25 this evening something with our hosts happened..... possible conclusions range from the new labrador chewing through the power cables, an afternoon tea spillage or merely server overload which has results in many sites including cDVDs.co.uk being inaccessible.

Thank god we have our blog hosted elsewhere... but they have assured me the problem will be rectified soon, and you will be able to continue comparing prices, and I will be able to answer your emails.

Gladiator - One of my favourite films

Gladiator (2000) - Directed by Ridley Scott and staring Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix – will always remain one of my most favourite action films.
Portraying the life of betrayed general Maximus Decimus Meridius (Crowe) by Commodus (Phoenix), who, in his ambition to be Emperor, murders his father, seizes the throne and condemns Maximus to slavery.

The film, set to a beautiful classical and often in periods energetic soundtrack, following the rise of Maximus through the ranks of the gladiatorial arena to avenge the murder of his family and his Emperor.

Having won a Golden Globe Award for “Best Original Score - Motion Picture” amongst the other 36 individual ceremonies that Gladiator was nominated in, including the 73rd Academy Awards, the BAFTA Awards and the Golden Globe Awards one can truly grasp the impact of this film. Research has indicated that out of 119 award nominations, the film won 48 prizes….. outstanding!

Record/ book store Fopp = Closed

Record/ book store Fopp went into administration on Friday, closing 81 stores across the country, citing lack of financial support:

There website fopp.co.uk merely states their great regret as they announce the closure.

“Our store chain is profitable, well regarded and loved by our loyal customers and staff. However we have failed to gain the necessary support from major stakeholders, suppliers and their credit insurers to generate sufficient working capital to run our expanding business…
We would like to thank staff and customers for their support over the past 25 years”

It is yet another loss for bricks-and-mortar record shops as retailing goes from strength to strength online…. Is this just a taste of things to come? Or is offshore operation the key to remaining competitive?

Film Classifications - What do they mean?

According to the independent regulator of the film and video industry in the UK, the British Board of Film Classification, current film classifications are as follows:

U – Suitable for all
PG – Parental Guidance Necessary / Some scenes may be unsuitable for children
12 – Suitable for persons 12 years and older
15 – Suitable for persons 15 years and older
18 – Suitable for persons 18 years and older

Do you think that such classifications are out dated? Has our acceptance been fundamentally altered by the main stream media including Big Brother’s explicit language, murder on Eastenders and scene of a sexual nature on Hollyoaks?

Perhaps the classifications no longer mean anything, and besides, will those under 18, 15 or 12 simply get to watch the films anyway by getting the parents to rent or buy them?

Whilst of course we must all live by these broad classifications, maybe a five star rating detailing the level on sex, strong language and violence (or that which might offend) on a DVD cases would be a better indicator, if that is of course you wish to censor what you or others watch….
